Challenge Forms

The forms listed at the bottom of this page are for experienced crane operators who want to challenge the BC certification by writing the theory test and taking the practical test.

Operators of the following crane classifications are eligible to challenge the BC certification through the Industry Training Authority (ITA):

  • Mobile Crane – Lattice Boom Friction
  • Mobile Crane – Lattice Boom Hydraulic
  • Mobile Crane – Hydraulic Unlimited Tonnage
  • Mobile Crane – Hydraulic 80 Tonnes and Under
  • Boom Truck – Stiff Boom Unlimited
  • Boom Truck – Folding Boom Unlimited
  • Tower Crane

How to apply

  1.  You will need to register with BC Crane Safety to start the process.
  2. Complete the challenge application form for the crane type you want to operate using the links below. The application includes an Employer Declaration outlining your work experience for your crane type. If you are self-employed or are unable to contact your former employer, a Statutory Declaration can be used to detail your work experience. The Employer Declaration is preferred and is easier to complete.Here are the forms for crane types eligible for challenge applications:

    Challenge Application: Mobile Crane includes the following:

    • Mobile Crane – Lattice Boom Friction
    • Mobile Crane – Lattice Boom Hydraulic
    • Mobile Crane – Hydraulic Unlimited Tonnage

    Challenge Application: Mobile Crane – Hydraulic 80 Tonnes and Under
    Challenge Application: Boom Truck – Stiff Boom Unlimited
    Challenge Application: Boom Truck – Folding Boom Unlimited
    Challenge Application: Tower Crane
