BC Crane Safety oversees all aspects of the BC Crane Operator Certification Scheme, including: crane operator standards, theory exam and practical test standards, and registration of crane operators.

In order to operate a crane in British Columbia, a crane operator must hold a valid credential that is issued by a certifying body that is recognized in BC.

Currently recognized certifying bodies are:

British Columbia: Fulford Certification, Industry Training Authority (ITA). Note: an ITA certificate also needs an accompanying successful practical test from a recognized certifying body.

Canada – other: All provinces’ and territories’ appropriate regulatory and/or apprenticeship authorities. (Some restrictions may apply for specific crane classifications and/or designations.)

Ireland: SOLAS Ireland (Mobile Crane, Tower Crane)

USA: NCCER, NCCCO, OECP (Mobile Crane, Tower Crane). Some additional requirements may apply.

Details on the various crane operator designations as well as recognized credentials are found on the Get Certified page.
