Using SkillRecord Passport
SkillRecord Passport is a digital record-keeping system for recording and maintaining crane operators’ certification, operating hours, and tracking operational data in the crane industry.
Operators use SkillRecord Passport as a one-stop electronic record-keeping system to:
- Record their qualification, professional status, training, and work experience
- Provide evidence of their certification to employers or WorkSafeBC
Operators can access their electronic logbook and credential information through SkillRecord Passport. The app is free for use under the BC Crane Safety licensing process and available through your app store for Android and iOS.
To log into the SkillRecord Passport mobile app use the email address you used when registering with BC Crane Safety.
If you have accessed SkillRecord Passport previously but have forgot your password, do not register again. Enter the email address you registered with and click “forgot password” to receive a reset link.
Once logged in, you can manage your SkillRecord Passport account, including the electronic logbook, digital credentials, and user guides.
Electronic Logbook
Record your work hours and experience in the SkillRecord Passport logbook. For each entry, identify the employer, crane type, and project. Be sure to enter the crane make and model and select the correct crane classification.
Use of SkillRecord Passport is compulsory for trainees. Trade qualifiers are required to have their hours signed off by the sponsoring employer.
Through the SkillRecord Passport app, employers or designated supervisors review and approve the logbook entries. This is an important step of a structured provisional operator training program to track experience and competency.
For experienced operators, logging hours in SkillRecord Passport creates a portable record of experience across employers and projects. This record can help demonstrate experience and qualifications when requested by an employer or enforcement officer.
Digital Credentials
Crane operators can view their digital credentials through the SkillRecord Passport when they have an internet connection. Before working in a remote location, take a screenshot of the credential. Make sure the important information such as operator name, crane classification, and expiry date are visible.

SkillRecord Passport includes user guides with step-by-step instructions for entering logbook hours and having them endorsed.
